11s luckless in Wales

The under 11s had their first game since October today. Making the journey across the bridge, the boys made their way to Newport for a 9-a-side encounter over two halves of 30 minutes.

Despite the early start, it was the Bath & Wilts side that started the brighter.  Neat passing passages gave Newport the run around and good chances went begging.  The best moment of the half was a dazzling run from Matty Pritchard.  Cutting through the middle of the pitch, he passed two players with ease to find himself 1 v 1 with the keeper.  Unfortunately, the keeper made a great save to deny Matty a fine goal.  0 – 0 at half time.

The second half was less impressive from the visitors.  Newport used their physical dominance and the BWBs wilted slightly.  Within 10 minutes the first goal fell and unfortunately it was for the home team.  It was a difficult half for Bath and the chances they had were more half chances, shots with no real conviction.  In the end, Newport scored another two winning the game through a dominant second half performance.

However, lots of positives to take from the first half, and…. it was fantastic to play football again!
